  • OCTA Board of Directors Seeks Applicants for Public Member

The Orange County Transportation Authority is the county transportation planning commission, responsible for funding and implementing transit and capital projects for a balanced and sustainable transportation system that reflects the diverse travel needs of the county’s 34 cities and 3.2 million residents. With the mission of keeping Orange County moving, this includes freeways and express lanes, bus and rail transit, rideshare, commuter rail, environmental programs and active transportation.

OCTA is governed by an 18-member Board of Directors (Board), which sets policy for OCTA. Voting members include five members of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, ten Orange County city members, and two Public Members. A non-voting member, representing the California Department of Transportation, also sits on the Board. OCTA is seeking applicants for one Public Member seat for a four-year term.

    Applicant Criteria and Expectations

Candidates must be residents of Orange County and should have some knowledge of transportation, finance, and OCTA priorities, and an interest in representing the public. A person who is currently serving as an elected official within the County, an elected official of any agency or special district within the County, or an elected official of the County of Orange, and who has held any of those positions in the past four years, are not eligible to apply. Many of the meetings are held at the OCTA Headquarters, 550 South Main Street, Orange. However, at this time, the meetings are being held in a virtual format until the Governor’s executive order prohibiting public gatherings is lifted. The monthly anticipated time commitment is between 15 to 20 hours per month, the majority of them during business hours.

Board compensation is $100 per day, with a maximum per month of $500 for OCTA business activities, including meeting, events, etc.
