Bringing your bike on Metrolink

It's amazing how well trains and bikes get along. Metrolink makes it easy with special cars that let you bring your bike on the train. It is the perfect way to escape for an easy ride or something more challenging.

While bikes are allowed on ALL Metrolink train cars, the special Bike Cars are designed to hold nine bikes on the lower level. Bike Cars are identified by a yellow "Bike Car" decal on the side of the train.

A Wide Variety of Rides

Both San Clemente stations are deal spots to start a ride yet the North Beach Station seems to be a favorite. You can go for an easy cruise along the beach trail, ride and explore the quaint downtown area, head north to Dana Point Harbor or challenge yourself with a trip to Oceanside.

Easy Rides

San Clemente Beach Trail
Up to 5 miles round trip.
Trail begins at the south end of the North Beach Metrolink station and parallels the beach.

Dana Point
Up to 10.6 miles roundtrip
Super flat trail that heads north along PCH in a separate dedicated bike lane. The path cuts through Doheny State Beach before arriving in Dana Point Harbor. Be sure to stop for coffee or snacks at Coffee Importers.

The San Clemente Pier

If you love strolling along old wooden piers then be sure to add the San Clemente Pier to your list. Originally built it 1928 it was 1,200 feet long. The pier has had its share of storm damage, the most recent was 1983, but it is back to it's back and ready for sightseeing and fishing.

Moderate Rides

San Juan Capistrano
Up to 14 miles roundtrip
Mostly flat route. Head north along PCH in a separate dedicated bike lane. At Doheny State Beach take the San Juan Creek Trail and ride straight into town.

Challenging Ride

Oceanside
26 miles one way
This route is for those who are already familiar with the trials and tribulations of getting a pass from the Camp Pendleton Marine Base so they cycle through to Oceanside. If you do, then putting your bike on Metrolink and starting from San Clemente can make for a great adventure. Most cyclists enjoy post-ride snacks in Oceanside then return on Metrolink.

You'll probably want to bring your own bike, but just in case you want to rent a beach cruiser or an electric bike when you arrive, you'll find Bicycles San Clemente in the parking lot of the San Clemente North Station.

We always suggest when planning your adventure to check the Metrolink train schedule to San Clemente. Both the Orange County Line and the Inland Empire Orange County Line serve this destination.
